Check if someone on Spotify clicked on your song. Send Your Music as a Link and See
To see if someone clicked your Spotify song link, paste the link into squish.to and send the short link you get back instead. Every time someone opens it, squish.to counts the open and then sends them straight on to your song. The stats page shows total opens, the last 7 days, and recent opens with country and source. There is no account to create.
This works the same way for Apple Music, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, YouTube Music or any other song link. The rest of this post covers why it helps, how to set it up, and what the numbers can and cannot tell you.
Why a click is useful before a play counts
Spotify's own help page says a stream is counted after at least 30 seconds of playback. A listener who taps your link, hears ten seconds and moves on never shows up in your Spotify for Artists numbers. The same goes for a person who opens the link and never presses play.
That gap matters most when you are pitching. You send your track to a playlist curator, a blogger, a radio host, a DJ or a label contact, and then you hear nothing. Spotify cannot tell you whether the message was ignored or whether they gave it a quick listen. A squish.to link can tell you the link was opened, so you know whether your pitch reached a real person.
To be clear about the limit: squish.to counts opens of the link. It does not know whether the song played, for how long, or whether they liked it.
How to do it
- Copy your song link. In Spotify, use Share and then Copy Song Link. Other music apps have a similar option.
- Paste it into squish.to. Pick a custom name if you like, for example
my-new-single. Custom names use letters, numbers and hyphens, from 3 to 30 characters. - Send the short link. Use it in your DM, email, text or social message. A short, readable link looks friendlier than a long streaming URL with tracking parameters.
- Check the stats. Click View stats, or visit squish.to/stats and enter your link name.
You also get a QR code for every link, which is handy on a poster, a flyer or a merch table. There is more on that in every squish.to link now comes with a QR code.
Use one link per person
Stats are per link, not per person. If you send one link to ten curators, you will see opens but not whose they were. Make one short link for each person, such as single-sam, single-priya and single-radio. Each stats page then belongs to a single conversation, and you know exactly who to follow up with.
What the stats show
For each link you will see total opens, opens in the last 7 days, your busiest day, a 14-day chart, and recent opens with the country and the source where one is available (for example a social app, or Direct).
A few ways to use it:
- Time your follow-up. If a pitch has zero opens after three days, a polite nudge makes sense. If it was opened, you can follow up knowing they have seen it.
- See where your link is travelling. A new country or source on a later open suggests it was passed along.
- Compare channels. Send one link on Instagram and another in an email, and see which one gets opened.
Read opens with care
Some chat apps and email tools load a link automatically to build a preview or to scan it. That can add an open that no person made, often within seconds of sending. A later open, hours after you sent it, is more likely a real person. Your own tests count too, so avoid tapping your link a dozen times and then reading the chart as if it were fans.
Treat the numbers as a hint for when to follow up, not as proof that someone listened. For the full list of what a short link records, see what a URL shortener actually logs.
Try it
Make your first song link at squish.to. It takes a few seconds, and you will see the first open as soon as someone taps it.
FAQ
How do I see if someone clicked my Spotify link? Paste your Spotify link into squish.to, send the short link instead, and open the stats page to see each click.
Does it show if they played the song? No. It shows that the link was opened. Spotify only counts a stream after 30 seconds of playback, and squish.to does not see what happens after the redirect.
Does it work with Apple Music, Bandcamp and SoundCloud? Yes. A short link can point to any web address, so any song link can go through it.
Can I tell which person clicked? Not from one link. Make one short link per person.
Do I need an account? No. You paste the link, get a short link, and use the stats page without signing up.
